The Cure Starts Now has partnered with Hearts for MK and artist Loretta Edwards to fund-raise for DIPG cancer research.
This heart pendant is handcrafted from 99.9% fine silver. It measures approximately 1.25X1.25 inches. It will be strung on a 925 sterling silver 20 inch chain with a 925 sterling silver bail.
As is the nature of hand-crafted items, there will be slight variations in each piece; no two will be exactly alike. These are truly hand made at the time they are ordered. Therefore, each piece will be numbered notating the sequence in which the order was placed. Each pendant will come with a special tag showing it is made on behalf Mary Katherine Keller by the use of a small heart with the letters MK stamped inside it. The pendants will be delivered to you in a beautiful red pendant box with information on The Cure Starts Now.  

Mary Katherine's Story

Mary Katherine (MK) was like every other four year old little girl. She loved her family, friends, pets, and playtime. Every time you saw her, there was a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eyes. She loved time with her friends but playing with her family was where she sparkled. Her smile was contagious and she spread joy wherever she went. She is the inspiration behind the design of this pendant, as well as every child diagnosed with DIPG and their families.

 

About the Design

"I am not a scientist, chemist, or a medical person by any stretch of the imagination but as I watched from a distance I came to the horrifying realization that there will be more children whose lives are stolen from them if we don’t ALL do what we can with the gifts God gave us. As for me, I enjoy making jewelry for people. I began to pray that God would show me how I could help find a cure. As I read over the journal entries from MK’s heartbroken parents, I began to see a design come in to focus.  
A heart ... of course a heart, there was so much love in every journal entry and every photograph of the family. Convex and concave sides to convey the ins and outs, ups and downs that go hand in hand with a life effected by DIPG.  
That seemed like a good start but something was missing, the Lord lead me to look at the pictures again and I saw what I was missing.... hands clasped together. Hands clasped together for strength, for support, for reassurance, for the vow of never letting go. Hands clasped to defy a diagnosis. Hands clasped in prayer by millions all over the world. The tiny hand of a child held by the helpless hand of a parent. Hands clasped together by those who donate to fund research to find a cure to eradicate DIPG and all childhood cancers. Then, I knew the design was complete."
